Research
I can carry out a variety of research methodologies to answer questions ranging from mere observational studies in a particular location to those inferring cause and effect over a specified geographic area. I can also develop predictive models from existing or newly collected data. I have access to scientific journals and can utilize consulting statisticians when necessary.
Inventories & Surveys
I am familiar with a wide variety of approaches to determining presence of a species, or a suite of species. Some techniques are geared to maximize detection of rare species, whereas other protocols are designed to have a high confidence that a species is absent. Each situation requires a specific approach.
Management & Conservation Plans
Both private and public landowners have needs for written plans that synthesize what is known and lay out sensible plans–or alternatives–for the future. Management and/or conservation plans need to take into account both spatial and temporal contexts of a piece of land or featured species, as well as current personal or cultural goals.
Literature Reviews & Conservation Assessments
Land, wildlife, and environmental management agencies frequently need to compile all known information on a particular species, habitat, or ecosystem. My experience with multiple agencies, previous data and literature compilations, and connections with a wide variety of field practitioners positions me to accomplish a thorough investigation and report.
Training & Education
I thoroughly enjoy sharing my experience with others, especially in a field setting. I can teach field sampling methodologies and identification for multiple taxonomic groups. I can also teach broader landscape and watershed-level processes that affect species habitat.
Tours & Guiding
I am available for most any type of custom trip or expedition you would like. I can work with you to create a trip to your specifications and budget. I will also develop prearranged trips for those who find appealing. I am happy to conduct expeditions of a more scientific nature, as well as those that focus as much on scenery and hitting great eating places. Your choice.
Photography
If you need an image of a particular species, landscape, behavior, or event, I can get that for you. Sometimes a stock photo from “who knows where” just won’t do. You want the real deal: the animal or plant from the area you are working in, or a landscape photo that communicates the message you want to get across.
