Landowner
I feel honored to work with people who care for their land and wildlife. And I know I am uniquely qualified to help you accomplish your goals. Let’s work together to learn about your natural resources and accomplish the goals you have for your property. Substantial savings can be had when neighbors go in together on one or more of the following services.
Site visit
This is probably the most productive, cost-effective, and enjoyable way to begin learning about wildlife and habitats on your land. As we walk your property, you share goals and ask questions, I share my observations, perspectives and recommendations.
Prepare a list of habitats and expected species
Without even visiting your property I can prepare a list of habitats and expected and possible species, based on your location and habitat types I can observe from satellite imagery (e.g., Google Earth). A short interview on the phone also helps. I can provide a list of likely and possible birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles, and dragonflies.
Develop a Habitat and Management Plan
I can develop a management plan that is specific to your desires and for your personal use, or I can prepare a plan that also meets the requirements of a Wildlife Habitat Conservation and Management Plan, which may allow a special tax assessment of your property.
Perform Wildlife Surveys
This is the only option that gives you actual data on species observed and documented on your property. I use techniques specific to the information you want to obtain. I may conduct diurnal bird surveys, use cover boards to find reptiles, or put up trail cameras to detect mammals. With your permission I submit all my observations and field notes to iNaturalist.org or eBird.org. That gives you a place to view all the data and photos, and contributes to our greater knowledge of the distribution and life history of species in the Pacific Northwest.
Restore, Enhance, or Create Wildlife Habiat
Your property is undoubtedly already home to many species of plants and wildlife, probably a mix of invasive and native species. If some habitat types have been lost or degraded, we may be able to restore them. In many cases, even while degraded habitats are recovering, specific microsite features can be added to provide homes, food, and/or water for a variety of wildlife species.
Photo Book
Either as an add-on to doing wildlife surveys (above), or for the sole purpose of having a photo book, I can photographically document the wildlife, habitats, and plants on your property and make it available for your purchase via online Print-on-Demand. In other words, you pay me for field time and creating the book, then you purchase on-line as few or as many books as you like. These are fun to send to friends and family or share when they visit.
